A Nation in Crisis: The Presidential Assassination

This morning news broke of the passing of Haiti’s President, Jovenel Moïse. The President was tragically assassinated at his home in Port-au-Prince. Reports are stating that his wife also sustained critical injuries. More coverage on this matter can be viewed on https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/07/07/world/jovenel-moise-assassinated-killed
Our hearts and prayers go out to The President’s family in this time of significant loss.

We want to express to our supporters and everyone that this is a pivotal time in Haiti, particularly following the passing of The President.  Our July Newsletter described the current crisis in Haiti. Some of the issues include that many organizations have ceased working due to significant gang activity, political unrest, and an increase in Covid-19 cases. The gang activity has made getting essentials to our facilities even more difficult.  We have been tackling these issues head-on throughout these difficult times.  Yet, with this morning’s developments, we know there is now an even larger response required.

Mission E4 has partnered with Mission of Hope International to create a crisis response campaign to bring further aid across our combined 15 schools and four orphanages. Our schools and orphanage in Port-au-prince and Croix des Bouquet are presently in some of the areas with the most significant danger.  Our response to this crisis will evolve minute by minute and day by day according to the need that must be met.  However, our immediate response will include:

  • Increased security at all our sites throughout Haiti
  • Stockpiling food to ensure that we can continue to provide for those in our care
  • Increasing our on-hand supply of gas and diesel to run generators and vehicles

We ask that you consider donating any amount you can to this cause, to help Haiti, and continue to Give Kids Hope during this trying time.
