Every September the United Way puts together a nationwide "Day of Caring". They partner with organizations to bring volunteers to places within their communities that could use some help with projects. Mission E4 was fortunate enough for the United Way and The Hanover Insurance Company to choose our Worcester Location.
Our Worcester facility is comprised of three buildings on Lincoln street that are joined by a treehouse-style stair tower, full basketball court, rec house, art house, and computer lab. The purpose of Mission E4's Worcester location is to have a place those in the community can use as a safe space. In the morning's we host a people without homes breakfast, where anyone can come in, get some food, coffee, and even seek refuge from the elements.
In the afternoon and evenings, the facility is turned into a kids and youth program, where activities are ongoing to keep the children in the 01605 zip code safe, fed, and developed relationships with healthy adults. 81% of households in the 01605 area are single-parent households. This just amplifies the need for the children to be in a safe space while the parents are working or unable to be there.
The Day of Caring brought out several dozen volunteers from The Hanover Insurance Group to work on various projects around the property. A group was repainting the cafe, while others were staining the deck, putting up a fence, building garden boxes, and landscaping.
The volunteers learned more about what Mission E4 is doing within the community, and Mission E4 learned just how amazing these volunteers and those who helped put the day together are.
A special Thank you to The United Way and The Hanover Insurance Company for choosing ME4 to dedicate your time to.
